READ THE RELEASE, NOT JUST THE REACTION

Three things to check.

  1. The period measured. A September release can describe August, a prior quarter, or an earlier survey.
  2. The revisions. Earlier estimates can change. A revised trend can matter more than one new number.
  3. The connection to your plan. Rate expectations affect cash yields and borrowing costs, but a calendar event is not a trading instruction.

Sources, dates & how updates work

We check the original data feeds hourly. Publishers update on their own schedules, usually on business days. Observation dates can differ from retrieval dates. If a source fails, its last successful data remain visible with their original dates. Treasury yields and overnight rates are benchmarks, not offers to buy or sell.

Daily figures are shown as published, including missing dates for holidays. Change is measured against the preceding available observation. One basis point equals 0.01 percentage point. CPI is a calculated annual change; mortgage figures are weekly averages. FDIC deposit figures are national averages, not “best available” rates. Calendar times are Eastern unless you choose UTC. Official schedules can change.
